Knygos aprašymas

From Library Journal "At the end of the nineteenth century/ things got wiggly" begins "Crawling Home," the opening poem in this collection and the first of many to explore the complex relation of past to present. Bogen's scene-building style often evokes lost worlds both cultural and personal, the "splendid displays" of the past creating a still point by which the present can be better understood. Thus, "Glass Music" pictures Mozart hearing the unearthly beauty of the glass harmonica; "A Postcard from St. Petersburg" glimpses czarist Russia. In "Winter House" building a fire gives the poet insight into the life of his wife's pioneer grandfather. Music is a recurring element, with poems about Schubert, Stravinsky, Elvis Presley, and reggae. A well-realized first book.
