Knygos aprašymas

The Roman fascination with the barbarians to the north becomes evident in this study of the representation of Germans in Roman art. The study is based around an illustrated catalogue of almost 350 works of art, including Trajan's Column and other monuments, frieses, sculptures, coins, sarcophagae, bronze figures, silver vessels and other artefacts in numerous collections. Krierer discusses the historical and ethnographic background to the artworks, the chronology of the imagery, the iconography and the textual evidence. Sections also focus on significant discoveries, mostly dating to the 1st and 2nd centuries AD. German text.
