About the Author Dr. Jerry Hopkins, a professor of history and a long-time pastor, has training in history, theology, political science, and religious studies. He began teaching at Eastern Kentucky University and has continued teaching for a time at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (as a teaching assistant), the University of Kentucky (first as a teaching assistant and then as an instructor for several years), Mid-Continent Baptist College, Panola College, and now at East Texas Baptist University as a professor of history. His research and work with the Billy Graham Center Archives (first as a student and then as an advisor and consultant in framing a collection policy for evangelical mission/evangelism/revival materials) enriched his understanding of both evangelical and non-evangelical traditions. Dr. Hopkins' research and writing has focused on social, religious, political and moral problems, including racism. Dr. Hopkins holds the B.A. and M.A. in history from Eastern Kentucky University (1968) and the Ph.D. in history from the University of Kentucky (1986). He has additional graduate studies at Regent's Park College, Oxford University (England), Texas Christian University, Stephen F. Austin State University, West Texas A&M University, and Texas A&M University-College Station.
