Most common cancer diagnosed in Indian men which is also the leading cause of cancer death is the oral cancer. Concept of oral cancer has been widely described as multietiogenic. Though, tobacco, alcohol, areca nut are the common causes of oral cancer, increased incidence of head and neck cancers have been reported in individuals even without any habit. The most common among them are infections and chronic irritations, which lead to inflammatory response alteration leading to increased mutagenesis. Hence, a different approach considering the appropriate facts is necessary. The work highlights the current researches on etiological role on uncommon facts of viral, bacterial and fungal causes of oral cancer.
