Knygos aprašymas

Product Description David Jackson's plans for attending West Point are threatened by the news of his girlfriend's unplanned pregnancy From School Library Journal Grade 7 Up A book that tells half of a love story from the point of view of the boy, then flips upside-down to tell the girl's version. Dave, the best-developed of the characters, is a serious scholar and plans to go to West Point. Then his love for Jamie, whose oft-mentioned resemblance to Snow White draws a fairy-tale parallel, leads him to sexual recklessness, and her pregnancy at 17 changes all of their plans. This is more complex than most teen pregnancy novels. Psychiatrist Kurland puts in a fairly heavy-handed plug for psychiatric counseling involving dream analysis; both the young lovers agree to try it when deciding what to do about the accidental pregnancy; both find their solutions through the interpretation of their dreams. After family conferences, Planned Parenthood counseling, and soul-searching, they agree to an abortion. All options are explored, including a poignant look at a school friend who married at 16 and at 17 resents her life. Kurland succeeds in avoiding obvious preaching, exploring the subtle ways in which Dave and Jamie grow. Even in collections in which ``Flip Side'' books have not caught on, this is a romance worth adding. Anne Osborn, Riverside Public Library, Calif.Copyright 1987 Reed Business Information, Inc.
