Poems In Early Recovery: Comparing In

Richard Adair is an author whose life's experiences dealing with alcohol and drug addiction leave him with a great deal of insight into the psyche of and the human condition of others who suffer from the same addictions. In the 'twelve step' world, the most important aspect of recovery is helping others to compare in. Feeling all alone, nobody understands, I'm different, yeah but, are all very common denominators for not being able get a start on the road to recovery. Richard is himself an alcoholic who is heavily involved, on a daily basis, in twelve step work. He claims no literary skill, only the ability to put on paper, in the form of poetry, the same feelings of confusion, joy, despair and most importantly, HOPE, as most addicts experience in recovery. It is a quality that no 'professional' can totally understand. The horrific tragedy of his son's accidental death leaves him with an honest ability to be able to say, "If I can do it, anybody can." During the course of his life, Richard has had as many careers as most folks have had jobs. His experience as a Federal police officer, United States Capitol Police, insurance agent, New York Life, business agent for a labor union, UFCW Local 455, building inspector, Prince William County, Virginia, entrepreneur, owner of Decks By Ram, have left him with a unique quality of being able to interact with virtually all walks of life. Though this book is targeted at the recovery community, many family members, friends and acquaintances have directly expressed to him how much his words have helped them to enjoy a more pleasurable way of life. It is his intention to pass on his own freedom to all who may seek comfort.
