Sinuses are very important anatomical structures inside the human body and has great importance in both medicine and dentistry. The maxillary sinus is the most relevant to dentists due to its close proximity to the posterior maxillary teeth. Dentists are often required to make a diagnosis concerning oral and maxillofacial pain that may originate from sinus. Thus, proper understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the maxillary sinus is a prerequisite for deciding the treatment plan for implant placement in maxillary posterior region. Maxillary sinus lift is a safe, reliable and successful surgical procedure, provided that the fundamental principles of the technique are strictly adhered to. The risks involved are small, with possible post-operative complications amenable to treatment through medication and / or surgical interventions.
