Knygos aprašymas

Periodontal disease is a microbial disease affecting the supporting tissues of the teeth. Neutrophils are essential effector cells of the innate immune response and are indispensable for host defence. Host neutrophils play a crucial role in restoring periodontal health by controlling these potential periodontopathic microorganisms. This book focuses on the role of neutrophils in the pathogenesis of periodontal disease which leads to degradation of bone and soft tissues around teeth. Furthermore how neutrophils inform and shape immune responses, contribute to the repair of tissues as well as its breakdown, use killing mechanisms and offer exciting opportunities for the treatment of neoplastic, auto inflammatory and autoimmune disorders are discussed. In addition, genesis and regulation of neutrophils in response to microbial LPS and generation of neutrophil extrcellular traps are also highlighted.
