Review "A writer's guiding words on the narrow path of following Christ. Gibson defines a schizophrenic Christian as one who is divided: living a Christian life while also adhering to a worldly element. Gibson details what Christians must do to avoid spiritual schizophrenia. ....Gibson's personal experiences with prayer and fellowship reveal much about his faith. The author's profound passion for following the spirit of Christ comes across clearly to the reader. ....contains nuggets of spiritual wisdom." -- Kirkus Discoveries Product Description Appropriate for teens through adults, it will inspire even the mature Christian with proven techniques. This book stems from my own personal experience as a prayer leader and is based on the premise that nearly every Christian has difficulty conforming to the will of God. The first chapter explores and defines some of the difficulties we face as would be followers of Christ. Enticing the reader to employ a few very simple methods, it will lead them to a much stronger relationship with God. To the best of my knowledge, no one has ever drawn an analogy between the five essentials of natural life and the five essentials of spiritual life. Air, water, food, sunlight, and livelihood are the natural essentials. They compare to the spiritual elements of prayer, bible reading, fasting, fellowship, and Christian works. Each essential receives it’s own chapter. Some other chapter titles are: Grace, Sins of Attitude, and Achieving God. I am currently back from the Philippines where a feeding program among poor people in squatter's villages is on going. In addition to preaching the gospel, we will feed one nourishing meal a day and provide support, (both moral and financial), for small business start-ups. Most of the proceeds from this book will go toward that effort. From the Author Forward by Rev.Dr.Violet Kiteley who is the founder of Shiloh Christian Fellowship in Oakalnd,CA. The pastorate has been passed to her son and now her Grandson. She is also the founder of Shiloh Bible College, also in Oakland,CA where she continues as president of the college. From the Back Cover We all suffer from the turmoil of making decisions. To do what is right without compromising Christian standards is often an emotionally painful process. In the pages of this book, I have laid out several methods to achieve a very close relationship with God and our Savior, Jesus Christ. As this closeness improves, our decisions have a much clearer definition. Soon you will find yourself taking no interest in the unholy things that used to trip you up so easily. "Don't abandon sin that you may get closer to God. Get closer to God that you may abandon sin." That is a paraphrase from one of the chapters. We have put the cart before the horse. We can't even recognize some habits and thought patterns that betray us as a friend of the world instead of someone that God calls friend. They must be revealed to us by the Holy Ghost. And that, my friend, is why I wrote this book. The chapter titled `The Five Essentials' defines what we must have to live a Godly life and are compared with the five essentials of biological life. I pray you find in these pages a way of sustaining a pure Christian image for the world to see. About the Author Gary Gibson was born and raised in Spokane, Washington.
