Knygos aprašymas

From the Inside Flap "Listen!" Stands Proud said slowly with a sneer. "Something is going on.  I want to know what it is.  I know it has to do with Dante so spit it out." Gianni nervously backed up against the kitchen counter. "I don't think I should..." "I think," Stands Proud said sternly, "you'd better." "It's very personal," Gianni said, glancing at Rafa. "Fine, we'll talk in private," Stands Proud said, getting up.  "Let's go for a ride.  We can search for my son while you tell me everything you know.  If you don't talk, we'll have a little ceremony; I'll tie you up and dump you into Fire Lake when I'm finished with you.  Got it?" "I understand," Gianni said quickly. Stands Proud went outside and Gianni followed him. Stands Proud got into the truck and slammed the door shut.  "Start talking." "It's not so easy," Gianni told him. "Open your mouth," Stands Proud said plainly, "and make words come out." "If he finds out I told you anything..." Gianni began. "Do you want him to die?" Stands Proud yelled. The inside of the truck seemed to shake and Gianni trembled. He swallowed, hard.  "No Sir." Stands Proud's eyes glistened in the dark, "Talk." Gianni nervously watched while Stands Proud started the engine. He saw the handle of a big knife in the glove compartment.  A loud crash of thunder caused him to jump and his insides shook.  "Shit," he whispered. Stands Proud glanced over at him. "He said a big storm was coming," Gianni told Stands Proud. "Gato...he said it would storm and that it would be bigger than all of us. He was right."  The lightening flashed and the rain began to fall.  "He's psychic or something.  He always has been...even in his first life.  Did you know that?" "No," Stands Proud said.  "I didn't." "Well, he is," Gianni offered.  "He used to scare the hell out of me with it when we were little. I felt bad for him because not only was he going through a bad time...he saw it coming before it happened." "We call it medicine," Stands Proud said.  "It's a gift." "Gato doesn't think so," Gianni confided.  "He hates it.  He said in his first life, he saw the settlers coming to this area but no one believed him.  They thought he was crazy.  He was lonely then too." "You can tell me these things later," Stands Proud said. "Tell me what I want to know, now!" Gianni cringed as another loud crash of thunder echoed over the prairie.  "Gato was right about Dante too," he said.  "Dante is responsible for Jeremy's death.  Gato blames himself also but it wasn't his fault."  He glanced at Stands Proud.  "I don't want to make you angry," he said. "Then keep talking," Stands Proud told him.  "You've killed someone with your bare hands," Gianni uttered. "You're not an easy person to talk to."
