Gingival biotype is the thickness of gingiva in the faciopalatal dimension. Different gingival biotypes respond differently to inflammation, restorative, trauma and parafunctional habits. Patients with thick-flat biotypes demonstrate short papillae whereas thick-scalloped biotypes show long papillae. Thin scalloped biotypes are considered at risk as they have been associated with a compromised soft tissue response following surgical and or restorative treatment as compared to that of thick biotype. So this book carve up a little about correlation between gingival biotype and immediate implant.
