Knygos aprašymas

Photoresponsive system such as bacteriorhodopsin (bR) has received unprecedented attention because of the belief that a molecular level knowledge of the structure and functions of these systems may provide an understanding of the light-induced biological sensory, energy transduction, nature of chromophore-protein interactions and its use in optoelectronic device applications. The present work is an attempt to look into some of the questions related to the excited state structure and properties of indolic ethenyl and dienyl chromophores as model linear polyenes. In this context, synthesis of variously substituted ethenyl and dienyl indoles and their absorption, fluorescence, photoisomerisation properties in solvents of varying polarity have been discussed. Some of the synthesised compounds have been used to prepare new bR analogues. The work is described in five chapters of titled " Synthetic Photoresponsive Systems."
