Product Description

The Saleswoman and The Househusband is a semi-autobiographical novel. Stuart and Lisa lose their jobs in Boston and become desperate. After searching for jobs for a year, Lisa settles. Her job will be selling engines to Amish farmers. Her art history degree won't help her there. It's no help that Amish men won't talk to her. Stuart and their two kids follow Lisa down to live in a stone hut at the epicenter of the Old-World. What if Lisa quits her job in this misogynist minefield? Could they sell the old hut? How will they find new jobs now that their resumes are even more decrepit? Lisa and Stuart are suddenly forced to confront all these questions at once.

About the Author

David Ross was born in Brooklyn, New York, studied art history at Tufts University and then spent two years at Oxford University's Ashmolean Museum as an intern. He founded the Art Conservation Resource Center in Boston, affiliated with Tufts University and wrote his first novel, That Boy's Seven Kinds of Love. The Sales Woman And The Househusband tells the tale of what happened once the Art Conservation Resource Center lost its funding and David and his wife, Judith went from being, "self-employed to self-disenfranchised". They joined the ranks of the middle-class, long-term unemployed. The essentials of their story remain intact. The dates and names have been fictionalized.
