The vast oil fields of Texas between Abilene and Fort Stockton are referred to by many as "The Big Country." The towns, big and small, as different as they may be, they all share two things in common......oil and cattle. The wind-blown hills of the Big Country can be desert-hot in the summer or bitter-cold in the winter. The harsh, unforgiving landscape there creates tough people who are tied closely to the land.
