Knygos aprašymas

Revealing the city's hidden ritual and mythological landscape, complete with appendices on walking the ritual landscape today

A study of the almost forgotten ritual landscape which lies hidden beneath the streets of the modern city, this book reveals the city nobody knows—a vast and intricate network of hilltop shrines, tracks, sacred rivers, mounds, ditches, enclosures, and man-made hills, all more than 2,000 years old. This prehistoric landscape, molded and shaped by early men and women, determined the position of such famous London landmarks as St Paul's Cathedral, the Tower of London, and Westminster Abbey. It has not been completely obliterated by the concrete and tarmac and this book explores what remains of these early sites. It also examines the religious beliefs and mythology of the pre-Roman area which became London, and discusses how these legends tie in with the various ancient features of the city.
